“A genuine, affectionate smile is very important in our day-to-day lives.” – the Dalai LamaThe Smile Project needs help with program development, sponsorship, and implementation.
If you have:
- Monastic background
- knowledge of Nepali/Bhutanese/Sikkimese culture
- teaching skills (story-telling, story-writing, poetry, and/or illustration)
- ESL skills
- translation skills (Nepali, Dzongkha, Sharchhop, Tibetan, Sikkimese, Lepcha)
- publishing knowledge
- and/or simply a passion to help bring reading, writing, poetry, and/or illustration to monks and nuns
The Smile Project needs you!
If you are a Publisher interested in:
- providing guidance on manuscript text/illustration
- donating storybooks (either for instruction or to begin monastery libraries, or both)
- publishing a MonastLit manuscript(s)
- and/or Smile Project sponsorship

The Smile Project is a charitable initiative inspired by The Dalai Lama’s belief in the transformative power of a heartfelt smile. The Smile Project brings joy to Buddhist monks and nuns in Sikkim, Bhutan and Nepal through reading, story/poetry writing, and illustration.
